Lumotune, Varden Labs, and Voltera win California Pitch Alumni Event
On Thursday, April 14th, ten startups from the Velocity Garage pitched their companies to hundreds of University of Waterloo alumni, students, and guests at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View, California. This event gave insight into how Waterloo brings innovative and world-changing ideas to the global marketplace, and showcased software, hardware, science, and social entrepreneurship startups pitching for an opportunity to snag one of three $5,000 prizes.
The great weather set a pleasant tone for the California Pitch Alumni Event, with Director of Velocity, Mike Kirkup, putting on his MC hat for a crowd filled to the brim with Warrior pride. Also in attendance was Feridun Hamdullahpur, President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Waterloo, who spoke at length about the entrepreneurship ecosystem at Waterloo. Following the engaging pitches, the audience voted to choose the winners, with Lumotune, Varden Labs and Voltera taking home $5,000 cheques!
Lumotune uses nanomaterials to create unique digital displays.
Varden Labs is using self-driving technology to develop a shuttle system for resorts, gated communities, and large campuses.
Voltera is developing a printer that enables low-cost circuit boards to be prototyped within minutes, eliminating frustrations with the traditional circuit board fabrication process.
Congratulations to these teams, and thank you to everyone in the audience for coming out to support entrepreneurship at the University of Waterloo.
