Catching up with Velocity Fund $25K winner, Curiato

This past December, Velocity hosted the Fall 2016 Velocity Fund Finals (VFF), a pitch competition that awards $125,000 each term to help startups build their business. We caught up with one of the $25K winners, Curiato, for a post-VFF update. Watch their pitch. On March 30th, another twenty startups will compete at the Velocity Fund Finals at the University of Waterloo to pitch for key funding. Come join us to watch!

1. How has your company developed since winning VFF?

Our team has since grown and have attracted top talent from various institutions to help guide us towards achieving our mission.

2. What is your company currently working on?

Since winning the VFF, the Curiato team has developed a unique design for the Sensor Matt and Air Cell technology, reducing manufacturing cost and healthcare liabilities. Furthermore, the team is in the process of completing the alpha prototype and have developed the version of the artificial intelligence platform.

The funding received has helped and enabled us develop and test our prototype and develop critical partnerships with AI and wound care researchers in Toronto, New York and San Jose.

3. What do you enjoy most about building a startup?

Identifying a big problem and leveraging creativity and innovation to test our assumptions is what we enjoy most about start ups.

4. What did you like most about competing at VFF?

Competing at the VFF gave us an amazing confidence boost that eliminated boundaries that we once feared. Truly one of the best experiences our team has had the opportunity to be a part of.

5. Are there any tips you can give to startups that are pitching?

Focus on your script and timing. Keep rehearsing and do not hesitate to ask the advisors for any help that you may need.
