Velocity is hiring a Velocity Science Coordinator

Do you love science? Want to make a direct impact on the science startup community in Waterloo region? Velocity Science is hiring a Coordinator to help provide the tools and resources for students and alumni to initiate and develop competitive and sustainable companies rooted in science innovations. As a staff member in the Faculty of Science, the candidate will work with faculty and student entrepreneurs at the University of Waterloo, in partnership with Velocity. You will be an integral part of a leading entrepreneurship program, and an awesome community of entrepreneurs.

We are seeking a dynamic and fast learning individual, whose key responsibilities include managing the Velocity Science campus lab and coordinating Velocity Science activities. A bachelor’s degree is required (in Science or a closely related discipline involving biology, biochemistry, and/or chemistry). We are seeking someone with 3+ years experience in a laboratory management role or as a laboratory worker/researcher.

The candidate must be proficient in managing projects related to laboratory practice (e.g. planning sequencing R&D activities), operations (e.g. safety, biological, chemical and materials handling) with a high-degree of quality, conscientiousness, and efficiency. We value specific experience with spectroscopic techniques, cell culturing, separations; biological, physical and/or chemical analyses.

Excellent communication skills are required, for reporting and communication with stakeholders: students, staff, faculty, Velocity business advisors, corporate and government guests. The candidate must have strong oral and written communication skills to convey innovative scientific research to specific audiences (technical reviewers, investors and the general public). Also important, is the ability to envision, develop, and implement laboratory operational processes; troubleshoot equipment challenges and define requirements for equipment acquisition; experience with preparation of procurement and financial information; experience working in both Microsoft and G-Suite environments.
