Catching up with 2018 Velocity Fund Finals $5K winner: IntelliCulture

Last July, IntelliCulture pitched and won $5,000 at the 22nd Velocity Fund Finals (VFF). IntelliCulture helps lower the cost of farming by giving farmers the tools and data they need to use their vehicles more efficiently and effectively. They are currently operating out of the Velocity Garage

We caught up with Cole Powers, co-founder of IntelliCulture, for a post-VFF update.

Intelliculture

Q. How has your company developed since winning VFF?

Cole Powers: The team is doing amazing! We are still together and the same size, but are currently looking at growth options to help us keep up with demand.

Q. What is your company currently working on?

Since winning VFF, we have completed free pilots of our system and have signed some paid customers for this coming Spring. For those customers, we are also developing our next generation logger.

In terms of funding, we have been applying to various programs. Most notably, we were accepted into AC Jumpstart earlier this year.

Q. Since your win at VFF, what has been your team’s most exciting moment?

Without a doubt, it has been installing on our first farm. We were up before 4 am in order to get to the farm, and I will never forget the feeling of driving up that driveway.

Q. What has been your team’s most frustrating moment?

Dealing with slow suppliers. In startup land, everything is as fast as you need it to be. As you grow and start working with larger companies, you realize not everyone will always be available when you need them most.

Q. Do you have any major accomplishments that you want to share? What’s next for your team?

The last few months have been pretty successful. I would say our largest accomplishments were signing paid pilots for this Spring and getting our next generation logger ready for launch. Another accomplishment was having a Farmtario article written and published about our company!

Q. What do you enjoy most about building a startup?

The best part about building a startup is working on something you are incredibly passionate about, and with your closest friends. You are working together to solve a problem and make things better in the industry.

Q. What did you like most about competing at VFF?

VFF was our spark to take IntelliCulture more seriously. It was our first taste of building a startup and it got us hooked. What I liked most about VFF was that it opened us up to a world that we never knew existed, and now one we can’t live without.
