The VeloCity Winter 2010 residents want YOU to come to VeloCity 101 and help in the development process of these BIG ideas.

The following are sneak previews of what is to come this Saturday January 16th. Registration is still open so follow the link below to get your ticket and be a part of this spectacular event!

BidIt (tentative name):

BidIt aims to make buying and selling items fun and profitable using a fresh take on the reverse auction business model. By sharing revenue coming from buyer bids with the seller, we give the seller an incentive to price the item at a large discount below market; potential buyers will be attracted to the best deals which they will place bids on. Each bid costs money and increments the price tag of the item by a (small) set amount; in the final few seconds of the auction, each bid extends its life, giving competing bidders a chance to counter.

Coupra Mobile E-Coupon Service:

The Coupra project is a location based mobile coupon service, where users select, download and use coupons based on their needs and preferences.  Consumers no longer need to cut out individual coupons; companies no longer have to spend money on printing costs.  Instead the cashier can scan the secure coupon on the customer’s mobile device such as an iPhone.  Participating merchants will benefit from cost savings using this service as well as having access to purchasing trends and related metrics of consumers.

BuDi

BuDi is a Business Directory with a big twist. Like any other business directory, it describes a business in detail. The twist lies in the fact that it allows for salespeople to find potential clients on the go. BuDi, so named because it is made up from the words Business and Directory, will take advantage of the features available on most mobile devices. This extremely useful application will provide unparalleled convenience to salespeople, and it will prove itself to be a necessary key to doing business to business sales.

DELTA SITES

DELTA SITES is a new content management system helping small businesses with no technical expertise create and manage their web presence/identity.

DitchThePillow

DitchThePillow is a Customized Notification Solution delivered as a phone call. The service includes a wake-up call, a personal news channel and an array of notifications for subscribers. This idea is in the design and development stage and more features are to be added.

MicroVest

MicroVest is an online service that will remove the barriers to entry to invest in a managed portfolio. Portfolio managers will be sourced from an online community, where the best managers get paid to get returns. Finally, the minimum investment will be less than $100, significantly lower than any other service!

Scribe

Scribe is a new style of word processor geared towards students and academic professionals that need to take well structured notes quickly.

The program uses a What-You-See-Is-What-You-Mean style of editor, where the user explicitly types out and is aware of the formatting, compared to common word processors. Scribe renders its documents into HTML format so nearly every file format will be able to be opened and created with Scribe. LaTeX is supported allowing for an extremely robust and quick equation input, as well Scribe can be used 100% with the keyboard, no more missing an important point during a lecture while trying to fiddle with the mouse.

RoomClerk

RoomClerk is an online room booking service designed to eliminate the hassles associated with searching for event space. RoomClerk will allow you to search our extensive database for rooms that meet your specific criteria while comparing prices, as well as locations. We connect those requiring event space to those who have excess space.

CrsClndr

CrsClndr is a way to make degree planning and discovery easier for students at UW, and thereby reduce course administration costs for the University. Students will be able to compare their transcript with their degree requirements to measure their progress, plan course paths to satisfy these requirements, and get recommendations for courses based on their interests and previous selections. This will reduce what was previously a complex process of cross-referencing information between Quest, the Undergraduate Calendar, and the Schedule of Classes, to the use of a single, easy-to-use tool.

lvlr

Pronounced “leveler”, lvlr is a website that stimulates students to learn more and do better in their university courses through healthy competition with their peers. The objective of each user, realized through an addictive and game-like setting, is to complete as many coursework-related Challenges as possible can on their lvlr account. For each Challenge completed, users earn Points and unlock more difficult Challenges. Students can gauge how well they are doing in comparison to their friends and rivals through the website’s Challenge Statistics. A Tutorial is included in every Challenge to ensure they can be worked through successfully. Users can interact and support each other on the Forum.
