With the most recent success of both VeloCity alumnus Eric Migicovsky and a more recent VeloCity addition, Bloq Software, it is no wonder VeloCity’s “dormcubator” success is showing up in places such as the Financial Post.
Eric, a recent Waterloo Systems Design Engineering graduate is currently launching his Blackberry Watch, called Inpulse.
“Mr. Migicovsky took the executives and IT experts at their word. This month, he is doing a soft launch for his new “inPulse” tech gadget: a watch that syncs to your BlackBerry. The rectangular face of the in-Pulse is larger than your average timepiece, and you can see only portions of your messages on the screen.
But if you are biking along the dikes of Amsterdam — where Mr. Migicovsky got his creative inspiration — this latest tech invention permits users to grab a quick glance at their wrist thus avoiding a nasty tumble over the wheels.
With several thousand pre-orders already in hand, Mr. Migicovsky is hoping to hit a home run, thanks in part to the dorm experiment that gave him access to service providers and key mentors.”
VeloCity is also helping to shape Waterloo Computer Science students: David Villarreal and Avi Itskovich along with partner Mark Ally of Queen’s Commerce with their company called Bloq Software. These students are currently participating in VeloCity’s Bootcamp program where they are building card games for the Apple iPad. Of their most recent success: May 19th their first game called King’s Cup HD, hit the Apple App Store! What’s coming down the pipeline for these card game developers: Poker and an update to King’s Cup, to name a couple.
