Velocity Programs offer valuable experience and opportunities to any entrepreneur, regardless of the size or scope of their company or idea.
The Velocity Garage provides workspace to startups for free. The Velocity Garage offers a peer community for problem-solving and idea-sharing, and a mentor network of successful professionals in areas such as HR, Legal, Marketing and Sales. At any time, more than 80 software, hardware and science startups work out of the Velocity Garage, the largest free startup incubator in the world. The Velocity Garage is located in the Tannery District in Kitchener, and provides direct access to programs offered by the community like Communitech’s Startup Services.
Open to anyone, Velocity offers Velocity Start, an entrepreneurship discovery space, and series of panels, workshops and discussions that provide the practical knowledge and coaching needed to get started building a business. Velocity Start consists of events that run every week throughout a four-month period, such as Your Kick A$$ Idea – a brainstorming session to help with ideation, What’s Your Problem? – a talk from the University of Waterloo’s Larry Smith, an Economics Professor, who discusses finding solutions to problems as a key element for startups, and Ain’t No Model Like A Business Model – how to build a business model for your startup.
More and more startups are finding their roots in life and material sciences, which led to the creation of Velocity Science, a partnership with the University of Waterloo’s Faculty of Science. Velocity Science provides a peer network, lab space, materials, workshops and a community of mentors to students in any program who are building science-based businesses.
Velocity found its beginnings on the campus of the University of Waterloo when the Velocity Residence was created for students who want to connect with entrepreneurs or entrepreneurial-minded individuals, build teams and start their businesses. The Velocity Residence houses up to 70 students per term.
